Climate Smart Agriculture and Sustainability Trade Offs in Agricultural Transformation Governance in Nigeria and Indonesia
Article Abstract
Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) has been established as an effective tool in addressing food security, environmental issues, and climate change within developing nations. Nonetheless, there is no denying the presence of sustainability trade-offs that arise due to the promotion of agricultural transformation within such countries. This study attempts to critically analyze the regulatory measures that govern climate-smart agriculture practices within the context of Nigeria and Indonesia. Moreover, the study will analyze any sustainability implications that arise from agricultural transformation within the two selected countries. In order to effectively understand these issues, the study utilizes doctrinal and comparative approaches to examine primary sources such as legislation and policy documents alongside secondary sources such as academic journals. Findings show that while these countries have embraced climate-smart policies and practices within their agriculture sectors, the implementation remains ineffective due to institutional weaknesses. Therefore, the study concludes that regional cooperation and sustainable policies must be employed in order to foster a resilient agricultural transformation.
