Afrocentric Legal Review

The Afrocentric Legal Review upholds the highest standards of publication ethics together with academic integrity and professional responsibility, which are mandatory requirements for scholarly publishing. The journal follows internationally accepted ethical publishing standards together with the best practices from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and established academic publishing standards. The Editorial Board, together with reviewers and authors and the publisher all work together to maintain the integrity, credibility and quality standards of all published materials. All people who participate in the publication process must maintain standards of honesty and originality, fairness, accountability, confidentiality and transparency during both editorial work and peer review assessment.

Responsibilities of Authors

The authors who submit their manuscripts to Afrocentric Legal Review must meet these requirements. 

1. The submitted work must be new and not yet published, and must not be under evaluation by any other organization.
2. The authors must properly acknowledge all sources and references throughout their work.
3. The researchers must present their data together with findings and interpretations in both complete and truthful form.
4. Authors must completely avoid all forms of fabrication and falsification, plagiarism and duplicate publication, and citation manipulation activities.
5. The author(s) must show the exact academic work that each person has done.
6. The authors must reveal all financial and personal conflicts of interest which might impact their work at the time of study submission.
7. The authors must follow all ethical guidelines and obtain institutional consent for their studies, which involve human subjects.
8. The authors must work together with the editorial office to address all peer review feedback while making necessary corrections and participating in any required ethical assessments. 

Editors Responsibilities 

The editors will perform their responsibilities according to these specific duties. 

1. The evaluation of manuscripts should focus on their academic value, originality, relevance and clarity, and scholarly contribution while excluding all bias against particular racial or ethnic groups or female and male authors or people from specific national backgrounds or religious faiths or institutional backgrounds or political beliefs.
2. The editors must create a peer review system that guarantees all reviews will happen equitably through secret methods which enable unbiased evaluation.
3. The editors must keep all details about submitted manuscripts and their respective reviewers secret.
4. The editors must avoid situations that create conflicts of interest and bias.
5. The editors must take necessary measures to handle situations that involve plagiarism and unethical behavior and, data manipulation, duplicate publication and authorship conflicts.
6. The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to reject manuscripts that fail to meet the ethical, academic, or editorial standards of the journal.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers are expected to:

1. The process requires evaluators to deliver assessments which maintain their objectivity and constructive nature and complete their work within an established time frame.
2. The reviewer’s must handle manuscripts as confidential materials which require protection from unauthorized access.
3. The task requires editors to find published studies which authors failed to include in their citations.
4. The reviewers must notify editors about any cases of suspected plagiarism duplicate publication or unethical behavior or any work that shows major similarities to existing published materials.
5. The reviewers must refuse to accept review requests when they have existing conflicts of interest.

Ethical Misconduct and Investigations

Afrocentric Legal Review will investigate all allegations of ethical misconduct, including but not limited to:

1. Plagiarism
2. Duplicate or redundant publication
3. Data fabrication or falsification
4. Citation manipulation
5. Authorship disputes
6. Undisclosed conflicts of interest
7. Peer review manipulation

Where misconduct is established, the journal may issue corrections, expressions of concern, retractions, manuscript rejection, temporary submission bans, or notify relevant institutions and regulatory bodies where appropriate.
